Sushi—when it’s done right, its everything you could ever want in a meal. Check out @TheHungryDominican's four favorite places in the Bronx to chow down on some rolls

SUGI SUSHI

3799 E Tremont Avenue

Despite what you may think, there's no shortage of genuinely impressive sushi spots in the Bronx. Sugi Sushi located in Throggs Neck is one of those places. Serving up some of the freshest-tasting sushi I've had at any sushi restaurant in the city, I could spend a whole day eating here, something I'll challenge myself to do one day. I sampled several rolls and found them all to be incredibly tasty. The Sweet Potato Roll is a must (and it's vegetarian!) also try the Zombie Roll, a tempura-fried spicy tuna roll, stuffed with avocado and cream cheese. East Tremont alone is riddled with hidden gems—if you're a sushi lover you need to head on over and start spreading the word.

YAMADA JAPANESE RESTAURANT

3811 E Tremont

Just steps away from Sugi Sushi is Yamada. Yet another restaurant offering sushi with its own unique flavor spin. I sampled the Kani Roll (crab stick) and Eel Avocado Roll—they were both delicious. The Eel Avocado is a total standout and I'm grateful every day that after years of refusing to eat eel, I've given it a chance. I've eaten sushi from this spot many times and I've never been disappointed. Bonus, they have a cute space that's perfect for dining out with friends and family. The sushi here is top notch.

YOKOHAMA

438 W 238th Street

This little restaurant located in Riverdale serves up some delicious specialty rolls and has an interior that, while small, is entirely charming in its own special way. Walls adorned with pictures of dishes from their menu it might seem like the kind of place where they welcome you to just point at what you want. I tried out the Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll, Jasper Roll and the Tiger Roll. Each had a delightfully fresh taste and packed with flavor—it made each and every bite enjoyable. There’s definitely no shortage of tasty options on their extensive menu.

CEETAY

129 Alexander Avenue

One of my absolute favorite sushi restaurants in the Bronx. Ceetay gets all the points for having a great menu, a great vibe, cool decor, amazing drinks and some of the tastiest sushi I've had. PERIOD. Extra points go to their specialty rolls (which are unlike any other rolls, anywhere!) like their amazing Forbidden Roll— black rice, tender wagyu beef teriyaki, asparagus and king mushrooms. Each piece of fish on the sushi platter was fresh and clean tasting—simple but elegant excellence. I can’t recommend this spot enough. Bring friends, bring a date, bring your Mom, bring serious sushi lovers, bring whomever, because this place is a win-win-win. For those still under the guise that there aren't any worthwhile restaurants outside of Brooklyn and/or Manhattan then I'm not so sorry to burst your bubble. Ceetay needs to be on your must-visit list.
