City Island is hosting its 5th Annual Clam Chowder Festival on Sunday, September 10th in Hawkins Park. The festival is a partnership between New York State Senator Klein and the City Island Chamber of Commerce and will run between 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

Restaurants and yacht clubs on the island will compete for the title of best white and red chowders. After a day of taste testing, Senator Klein will judge and award his favorite recipe at 5:30 PM. Festival goers can vote their top two chowders for the people’s choice prize, awarded by the City Island Chamber of Commerce.

Last year’s overall favorite was Park Place Cafe at Turtle Cove Golf Center’s white chowder by Chef Trevor Cooke. He won both Senator Klein’s award and the People’s Choice award for the white chowder category.

Chef Cooke has been cooking professionally on and off for about 14 years. “It’s a nice feeling,” says Trevor about being a part of the annual festival. He is competing this year with the same winning recipe. His secret? “Put everything fresh in, as much as I can.”

Senator Klein’s favorite red chowder of 2016 was City Island Yacht Club’s recipe.

The winner of the people’s choice award for red chowder was Harlem Yacht Club.

All of the chowders featured at the festival are available on the menus of the participating restaurants and yacht clubs.

Senator Klein’s 5th Annual City Island Clam Chowder Festival will be held during the annual City Island Chamber of Commerce Arts and Crafts Fall Fair on September 9th and 10th.
